TAMPA, FL- On August 23, 2014, endurance athletes will have an opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities in the inaugural Cott Beverages Downtown Du Dash in Tampa, FL. This event is the latest initiative of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission’s Event Development Institute and is open to anyone interested in challenging themselves in a modified duathlon. The format of the event will consist of a timed run and bike ride through the streets of downtown Tampa.

The event will be split into four different competition categories: competitive, recreational (non-competitive) JV youth and Varsity Youth. The competitive event will start at 6:45am and will include a 5k run and a 10 mile bike ride. The recreational event features the same distances and starts at 7:15am. The Varsity youth component begins at 7:30am and consists of a one mile run and a three mile bike, while the junior varisity division begins at 7:40am and features a half-mile run and 1.5 mile bike. The Cott Beverages Downtown Du Dash kicks-off a busy day in downtown Tampa with the recently announced Tampa Bay’s Tailgate Taste Fest taking place at 11:00am.
The Tampa Bay Tailgate Taste Fest will be held at Curtis Hixon Park from 11:00am-8:00pm. As the unofficial kickoff to the football season, this event will feature some of the top restaurant vendors from around the Tampa Bay area showcasing their best tailgate foods such as chicken, ribs, sliders, Cuban sandwiches and side dishes.
